THE VILLAGE | FOLKLORE | THE DOGGIE | THE DAYS OF HORSES | THE COMIC
The Ceclavín coat of arms gives us information about important events that happened in the past. The lion appears, as a sign of its belonging to the kingdom of León and to the domains of the Order of San Julián del Pereyro. A bunch of grapes, since the land favors this crop, in the past the local wines were so important that they even reached Carlos I in his retirement in Yuste. The roll or pillory, symbol of the acquisition of the status of Villa, on September 25, 1537 and, finally, a canvas of the wall, raised by the ceclavineros due to the Portuguese uprising in 1647.
The name of Ceclavín derives, according to one of the two currents of open opinion, from a simple corruption of the Latin 'Cella-Vini', 'wine cellar', that is how most of its inhabitants and some historians identify it. The other current is committed to the Arab origin of the town, associating its name with 'Siglabiyín', 'slave camp', since a tribe of Muslim slaves stood out towards the south of Coria in order to colonize the area between Coria and Alcántara. .
In any case, the municipality was founded ex novo in 1184, the 12th century, the year in which it was donated to Coria as Episcopal Chamber, and in 1257, the 13th century, the year in which it was established as a Commendation of the Order of Alcántara.
